What makes honey truly raw?

Raw honey is honey as it exists in the hive: extracted from the comb, strained to remove wax chips and bee parts, and jarred. Nothing else. Most grocery-store honey is heated to high temperatures (pasteurized) and pushed through fine filters — a process that makes it clearer and slower to crystallize, but strips out pollen and diminishes the natural enzymes that give raw honey its character.

Our honey is never heated above natural hive temperatures and never fine-filtered. That’s why you may see tiny flecks of pollen or beeswax in the jar, and why the flavor is richer than anything on a supermarket shelf.

Is raw honey unpasteurized?

Yes — and this matters more than most labels let on. Pasteurization heats honey to roughly 160°F to dissolve crystals and extend shelf appearance. Honey doesn’t need it for safety (its low moisture and acidity already prevent spoilage) — pasteurization is purely cosmetic, and it comes at the cost of heat-sensitive enzymes and aroma compounds.

Raw honey questions, answered

What is the difference between raw honey and regular honey?

Regular commercial honey is typically pasteurized (heated to ~160°F) and fine-filtered, which removes pollen and reduces natural enzymes. Raw honey is only strained and jarred — it keeps its pollen, propolis, enzymes, and full flavor. That’s also why raw honey crystallizes sooner: it’s a sign of real, unprocessed honey.

Is your honey unpasteurized?

Yes. All of our honey is raw and unpasteurized — never heated above natural hive temperatures. Pasteurization is cosmetic, not a safety requirement, and we skip it to preserve the enzymes and aroma.

Is raw honey organic?

Ours is 100% pure raw American honey, but we don’t label it certified organic. True certified-organic honey is nearly impossible to produce in the U.S., since bees forage freely for miles and no beekeeper can control every flower they visit. Most “organic” honey on shelves is imported. We’d rather sell you honest American raw honey than an imported certificate.

Why did my raw honey crystallize?

Crystallization is natural and a hallmark of raw, unpasteurized honey — the glucose naturally forms crystals over time, faster in cool temperatures. It’s still perfectly good. To re-liquefy, set the jar in warm water (under ~110°F) and stir. Read our honey storage guide.

Yes, for children over 12 months. No honey of any kind — raw or pasteurized — should be given to infants under 1 year old.
